All typing tests

Every test on the site, grouped by what you want to measure. They're all free, none of them need an account, and they all score your typing the same way, so you can compare results across them.

Not sure where to start?

Take the 1-minute typing test three times and keep the middle score. That's a fair picture of your everyday speed. If you need a number for a job application, use the 5-minute test instead: it shows how well you hold your speed when the first burst wears off.

Tests by time

From 30 seconds up to 30 minutes. Short tests reward a fast start. Longer ones show your real, sustained speed, and they're the right choice for exam practice. Don't be surprised if you lose a few WPM between the 1-minute and 5-minute tests.

Tests by word count

10, 25, 50 or 100 words. The clock runs until you finish. These suit people who don't like watching a timer, or who want a fixed amount of text to compare day to day.

Quotes, punctuation and numbers

The quote test uses real passages from classic books. The punctuation and numbers tests add the keys most word tests leave out. If your job involves invoices, code or anything with digits, these will tell you more than a plain word test. Data-entry roles often ask for keystrokes per hour instead of WPM, and the KPH test is built for that: multiply its characters per minute by 60 to get keystrokes per hour.

Tests in 49 languages and variants

Each language test uses real words in that language's own script, built from frequency lists, not English translated word for word. That count includes Brazilian Portuguese as its own test. Twelve languages also have a harder 5,000-word version. Popular ones include English, Spanish, Hindi, Turkish and Japanese. Choose your language in the site's language menu and every test here runs in it.

Tests on other keyboard layouts

Thinking about switching layouts? You can try Colemak, Colemak-DH, Dvorak, Workman, AZERTY, QWERTZ or BÉPO right in the browser, without changing your system settings. We also wrote up what the evidence says about whether switching is worth it.

Exam practice

Exam presets copy the length and language of common Indian government typing tests, including SSC CHSL, SSC CGL DEST, CPCT Hindi, RRB NTPC and court stenographer tests. For Hindi at exam length, open the site in Hindi and take the 5-minute or 10-minute test.

Every number on every test is explained on the scoring methodology page.
