What we promise
Honest numbers. Your headline score is net WPM, which only counts words you typed completely right. Next to it you'll see raw WPM, accuracy, your mistake rate, corrected and uncorrected errors and consistency, each with a one-line explanation. Nothing gets rounded up and nothing is hidden. The scoring methodology page has the detail.
A clean place to type. Nothing moves or loads over the words while you're typing, and nothing interrupts a test. Our fonts come from our own server, not a third party, and once the page has loaded, the test keeps working even if your connection drops.
No login needed. Every test works without an account, and your result saves on your device straight away. Signing in is optional. It adds your history across devices, personal bests and a place on the leaderboards. We sign you in with a link sent to your email, so there's no password to remember or to leak.
What you can test
Timed tests from 15 seconds to 30 minutes. Word-count tests. Passages from public-domain books. Punctuation and numbers. Keystrokes per hour for data entry. Tests in 49 languages and language variants, each in its own script. And seven alternative keyboard layouts, emulated in the browser, so you can try Colemak or Dvorak without changing a single system setting. Everything is listed on the all typing tests page, and there are exam presets for Indian government typing tests. Press ? on any page to see the keyboard shortcuts.
How we keep results honest
Every result you submit includes its keystroke log. Our server recomputes every number from that log, checks that nothing was altered on the way, and looks at the timing between keys before a result can reach a leaderboard. Very fast results, above 130 WPM, that also show unusual timing are held off the public boards until you pass a short re-test. You always see your own result either way. The anti-cheat page explains exactly what we check and how to appeal.
Who makes it
TypingSpeedTest is made by a small team that cares about keyboards and about measuring things properly. Every formula we use is published with a worked example, so anyone can check our numbers. The word lists, quotes and fonts we use are listed with their licences on the credits page.
